Description:
There
is little question that we live in a divided, and divisive, time. The list of
divides is long, Republican/Democrat, Black/White/Brown, Rural/Urban, young/old
and more. Some make the case that social media and political vitriol have made
things worse than ever before. Others say that we have always had divides and
always found ways to overcome them. Some say that more civility is required to
help us come together in our communities and our country. Others say that
civility is the enemy of social and political change. There is nothing simple
or clear about the topic, it's complicated.
We
will come together on October 5th in safe, civic space to have a
conversation about the moment we find ourselves living through. The day won't
be about teaching 'civility', instead it will be about what role leaders can
and should play during this moment in our history. How do we build trust
amongst groups with differing views? When does advocacy cross over to
demonizing? When do we build bridges and when do we burn them? How do we make
that decision? We hope you will join us and fully participate
in this socratic conversation as we wrestle with one of the most challenging
issues of our time.
Join us for two great days in Charlottesville! Immediately after our first-ever golf tournament on October 3 at the championship Birdwood Course (more info on the Golf Tournament event page), we will have our 2018 Alumni Forum at the Boar's Head Inn.
PS: You do not have to be a golfer to join us on Wednesday! We have a fun Wednesday night planned for you at our Golf Tournament Reception & Alumni Party at Pippin Hill Vineyards. We will have a farm-to-table dinner, open bar featuring Pippin Hill wines, a bonfire, and music.
