Cathryn Lowe, Class of 2010
Senior Counsel
DeWitt & Associates, Inc.
Richmond
What is new and exciting with you now or since your LEAD VIRGINIA class
year?
In May 2012, I made my own strategic decision and departed from the Virginia
Early Childhood foundation to join the world of consulting. I am currently providing
support to CHIP of Virginia as their Development Consultant and am partnering with
Dewitt & Associates, providing strategic guidance to non-profit organizations in board and leadership
development and strategic planning.
How did your LEAD VIRGINIA experience help to shape you as a leader?
The exposure to the diverse regional cultures and how each is addressing the economic, education and
healthcare challenges they face was quite revealing. The opportunity to share in discussion with an equally
diverse group of leaders in my class, broadened my perspective and gave context to the need to seek different
avenues and approaches to addressing our many challenges.
Since LEAD VIRGINIA, how have your put social capital to work?
I’ve been fortunate to be in a profession that allows me to engage with organizations that are addressing
many of our societal issues. I think my LEAD VIRGINIA experience has made me more aware of the connection
and impact each has on the other and that we cannot continue to operate in silos – that collaboration and
partnerships are essential.
What is something that LEAD VIRGINIA inspired you to do that you were not doing before your class
year?
To step outside of my own “box” and seek opportunities to more broadly use my skills and experience. Thus my
recent decision to venture in to the world of consulting!
